Han teams up with original Karate Kid, Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), to train kung fu prodigy Li Fong (Ben Wang) for an epic martial arts showdown. Set three years after the events of “Cobra Kai,” the trailer opens as Wang’s Li Fong relocates to New York City with his mother after a family tragedy. As he moves into a new school, Li attracts unwanted attention from a local karate champion, Conner.
Li then finds himself embarking on a journey to join a karate competition as a step to defend himself. Chan’s Mr. Han and Macchio’s LaRusso unite to merge kung fu with karate to mentor the kid.
“Let’s make a Karate Kid,” said LaRusso to Mr. Han at one point in the trailer as they agree to combine the ancient way and the “Miyagi way.” Chan impresses with his effortless karate moves and high-flying kicks in every fight sequence with Wang’s Li as part of training him.
Macchio’s LaRusso also stirs the narrative as the helping hand in teaching Li as they prepare for the big karate tournament. Macchio first portrayed a teenaged LaRusso in the original 1984 film and Chan played Mr. Han in the 2010 remake.
Aside from the aforementioned, the film also stars Joshua Jackson, Sadie Stanley, and Ming-Na Wen. “Karate Kid: Legends” opens in Philippine cinemas on June 4. Meanwhile, in October last year, Chan raised concern among his fans after he fainted while performing a fight scene for his film, “Panda Plan.
