You could be tucking into a delicious jacket potato in just 30 minutes. The humble jacket potato is a lunchtime staple. It can fill you up enough to let you plough through the rest of your work day, and it's a super versatile dish to which you can add almost any topping you can think of.

But there's just one drawback when it comes to the yummy spud - it takes ages to cook . If you don't bung it in the oven hours before you're due to have lunch, it won't even be cooked by the time your break is over, and blasting it in the microwave just leaves you with a soggy and unappetising potato that has none of the charm of a properly baked spud. However, it turns out you don't have to wait for hours for your jacket potatoes to be cooked - as there's an easier way .

One woman shared a video on TikTok that's been going viral, and she claims you can cook a jacket potato in as little as 30 minutes. While you do need a microwave, the potatoes still come out crispy and delicious, thanks to one extra step. All you need to make jacket potatoes in a fraction of the time is an air fryer.

In her video, the woman said: "Guys, you're making jacket potatoes all wrong. Bung them in the microwave for eight and a half minutes, then cover them with oil, add some salt, and then chuck them in the air fryer for 20 minutes." She declared she had no idea why people would still cook jacket potatoes in an oven when using this method, which takes around half an hour in total and still yields delicious spuds that are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.

In the comments, she confirmed that she cooks her potatoes at 200 degrees in the air fryer and insisted you must poke holes in the potatoes before you start cooking. Commenters on the woman's video were torn over her hack, however. Some said they had tried air-frying their jacket potatoes and found that they came out "like bricks.

" However, many also advocated for the method, saying it saves so much time in the kitchen and cuts down on energy costs. One person said: "I tried these last night, they're so much better in the air fryer!" Another added: "That's how I make them! They are so much nicer this way! Airfryer crisps them up in half the time.".
