Dubai: Sunny Deol’s much-anticipated pan-India action film Jaat opened in theatres on April 10, aiming to replicate the success of recent blockbusters such as Jawan . Directed by Gopichand Malineni in his Hindi debut, the film marks Deol’s foray into the South Indian market. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Jaat earned Rs60.
7 million at the Indian box office by 5pm on day one. While it’s a solid opening, it falls short of record-breaking figures. The film collected a total Rs400 million at the box office so far.
Advance bookings were underwhelming, closing at Rs23.7 million in pre-sales across India. In contrast, Gadar 2 had secured Rs176 million in advance bookings.
Except for the National Capital Region (NCR), most major territories did not cross Rs10 million mark, raising concerns about the film’s mass appeal. Occupancy rates also varied. Jaipur led with 29.
5% occupancy, followed by NCR at 17.5%. Chandigarh and Hyderabad saw decent turnout, but Mumbai (10%) and Pune (7.
5%) lagged behind. Cities such as Bengaluru, Chennai, and Ahmedabad reported moderate occupancy. Jaat features a star-studded cast including Regina Cassandra, Randeep Hooda, Vineet Kumar Singh, Saiyami Kher, Ramya Krishnan, and Jagapathi Babu.
While the action-packed film had high expectations, the initial response suggests a mixed start. The coming days will reveal whether Jaat can build on its opening and gain box office momentum.
