The anticipation reached its peak as ITV audiences tuned in to witness a new group of celebrities acclimatise to their jungle surroundings on Sunday evening. A total of 10 familiar faces have swapped their comfortable lifestyles for the company of creepy crawlies, embarking on their journey to the Australian bush in spectacular style. During the episode, viewers watched as the celebrities bonded by the campfire, with TV star Coleen Rooney opening up about her marriage.
At 38 years old, Coleen, who is wed to ex-England football ace Wayne Rooney, found her campmates eager to delve into the details of their partnership. Seated alongside GK Barry , Oti Mabuse, and Jane Moore, the ex-Strictly contestant probed: "And it was love at first sight? " Coleen candidly revealed that their romance didn't exactly start that way, reports the Mirror . She responded: "No it was for him, not for me.
He fought to get me, yeah. I waited until I'd done my GCSEs and then I went on a date. I was pretty good at school .
" Coleen also let slip that their initial date took place at a cinema. Further adding to the romantic revelations, she said: "We had a kiss around the church first!". Before joining the show, Coleen admitted she had been approached to be part of the cast several times before but shared her motivations for finally accepting the offer this time around.
Coleen expressed her reasons for joining the show: "It has been year after year I have been asked to go on a programme and it's always been a straight no," says Coleen. "Over the years, there have been different things going on in my life and also, my children have been really young. But they are at an age now where I can go away for this length of time.
" She added that she's ready for a new challenge: "I also feel it's time to have a challenge for me and do something different. It has taken many, many years but I'm finally doing it. And I have always said if I was going to do one then it would be this show.
I think it will be good for me." In the first episode, the celebrities were immediately put to the test with a race to the camp, which decided the first leaders of the camp. Hosts Ant and Dec detailed the perks of winning the race as they explained that whichever pair earned the title would be given special privileges such as being able to sleep in the comfort of the Leaders' Lodge and being exempt from the first Bushtucker trial.
Ultimately, Coronation Street actor Alan Halsall and singer Tulisa Contostavlos emerged as winners, beating out Danny Jones and Barry McGuigan to become the first leaders. I'm A Celebrity..
