'It's very upsetting': Vandals damage memorial benches at cricket club

RELATIVES were left “heartbroken” after memorial benches at a cricket club were vandalised.

The damage was inflicted on benches at Rainford Cricket Club, on Church Road, last Friday, April 11. Among the benches to have been targeted by the vandals was one in memory to Alex Whitehead. Alex, from Rainford, passed away aged four from cancer in 1997.

“Ours wasn’t the only bench damaged and unfortunately, vandalism has been happening a lot more recently in Rainford.” The benches have since been fixed and it is understood CCTV has been passed on to the police after the incident. Do they realise the damage they are causing? “I’ll never understand why they did it, my only hope is that they stop and think about how their actions can impact others, and to treat people and people’s property with respect.
