It's time to honor America's veterans. Where are Florence's Veterans Day events this year?

The city of Florence and Florence Symphony Orchestra will honor veterans at two events on Nov. 11. The city's Veterans Day ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. The orchestra's performance is at 7:30 p.m.

FLORENCE — It's time to thank those who served in the U.S. military during times of war or peace.

All veterans contributed to keep America safe. Veterans Day is Nov. 11.



The city of Florence will hold its 16th annual Veterans Day ceremony at Florence Veterans Park, 601 Woody Jones Road. The ceremony is free and open to the public. The ceremony will last 45 to 50 minutes and begins at 11 a.

m. The All Saints Episcopal Day School Crusaders Youth Choir will start a concert at 10:40 a.m.

as people start arriving. The program will include: "The ceremony is a meaningful opportunity for our community to come together and honor the brave men and women who served our country," Interim City Manager Scotty Davis said. "We are grateful for the dedication of the Florence Veterans Park Committee in making this event a success each year.

" The Florence Symphony Orchestra also will bring the community together to honor veterans at 7:30 p.m. Nov.

11 with its Veterans Day concert at the Francis Marion University Performing Arts Center. The concert is part of the symphony's 2024-25 season. It will feature American composers Morton Gould, George Gershwin and Aaron Copeland.

Pianist Robert Henry will perform Concerto in F by George Gershwin with the Florence Symphony Orchestra on Nov. 11 at the Francis Marion University Performing Arts Center. The Armed Forces Salute will be performed to honor veterans.

Veterans at the performance will be asked to stand when their branch of service song is playing. A limited number of complimentary tickets are available to veterans. Veterans should call the Performing Arts Center's ticket office, 843-661-4441, between noon and 5 p.

org . Here's a look at the pieces that will be performed. American Salute was written by Gould in 1942 during the early days of World War II at the request of a government radio program producer who wanted a salute to America.

Concerto in F for piano by Gershwin is written in a more classical style than his other compositions like "Rhapsody in Blue." It was composed in 1925. It was written to represent the young, enthusiastic spirit of American life.

Guest artist Robert Henry will perform Concert in F for piano with the Florence Symphony Orchestra. Rodeo by Copeland is a ballet and was composed in 1942. Agnes de Mille choreographed it for the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo.
