The 31-year-old credited her long-term success and popularity to her luck. Lee Ji Eun, popularly known as IU , has been one of the most celebrated names in the South Korean entertainment industry. Over the course of her career, the 31-year-old has not only won hearts with her impressive singing skills but also left viewers in awe of her versatile on-screen performances.

However, with immense popularity comes immense scrutiny, and she has often been subjected to speculation regarding “celebrity disease"– a term used to describe a celebrity’s growing arrogance due to their stardom. In her latest appearance on the YouTube channel TEO, IU tackled the topic with much honesty and her signature wit. She spoke about her widespread popularity and success, humbly insisting that fate played a bigger role in her journey than anything else.

“Compared to my skills and talent, luck did the most in my life," the Hotel del Luna actress admitted, as quoted by Koreaboo. Despite being recognised for her exceptional songwriting, vocal prowess and acting talent, IU reasoned that the sole reason why she has been experiencing long-term success is luck. She added that many in the industry are far more talented, but she has been reigning the hearts all because of fate.

The actress-singer also used the platform to clarify rumours about her having “celebrity disease." In the interview, IU hilariously cleared the air around the rumours once and for all. She said, “It’s logically impossible," and explained that she never considered herself that “important" enough to develop such an inflated ego.

The My Mister actress added, “Someone might say, ‘IU is b—-y.’ That’s because I am b—-y. Not because I have celebrity disease.

That’s just because I was born to be b—-y." Further, the 31-year-old K-pop icon also admitted that she doesn’t just possess the ability to poke fun at herself but also has developed a thick skin after being in the industry for nearly two decades now. When the show’s MC, Jang Do Youn, appreciated IU’s quality of ignoring unnecessary scrutiny, she accepted, “I’m not easily hurt.

" Speaking of IU’s work front, the 31-year-old is currently seen on Netflix’s Korean slice-of-life drama When Life Gives You Tangerines. Written by Lim Sang Choon and directed by Kim Won Seok, the drama stars Park Bo Gum opposite IU and Moon So Ri and Park Hae Joon in supporting roles. The K-drama premiered on the streaming platform on March 7 and is scheduled to conclude on March 28.
