A teenage trio have showcased their musical talent by winning a music competition. Band members Matilda Evans, 16, and James Gibbon, 17, both from Ramsbottom, and Georgina Simpson, 15, from Bolton, formed their group Mission Nowhere in September last year. The band are described as a “heavy 2000s pop punk infused power trio”.
They took part in a sold-out Battle of the Bands event at The Met theatre in Bury on February 27, which saw seven bands schools compete for the title. And they were crowned the ultimate winners. Matilda, who provides bass and vocals, and Georgina, who plays drums, met while at Bury Grammar School and soon became “best friends”.

After searching for a guitarist, they met James at a gig and Mission Nowhere was officially formed. Matilda first started playing guitar aged four.
She moved on to piano and violin before picking up bass guitar and vocals after going to gigs with her Dad. James, a student at Holy Cross College, began playing guitar when he was in Year 7. He initially wanted to learn drums but “thought they were too noisy.
” Georgina started drumming aged five and looked up to older kids playing the drums and was inspired for life. In primary school she also got into singing. Now aged 15, her musical taste is rather eclectic and ranges from pop to rock.
Mission Nowhere performed three covers alongside their newly-released original single, Nowhere, at the Battle of the Bands event. They won both the public and judges' vote, with judges praising their “excellent musicianship” as well as stage presence. Matilda said: “Growing up I have always been to concerts and it was such an awesome experience being able to be up there myself!” James, who celebrated his 17th birthday at the event, said: “Thanks to everyone that came along to support us.
” Georgina added: “Battle of the Bands was incredible! It was great representing Bury.” The trio thanked their friends and fans who came to support them, adding that they were the “best and loudest”. They competed in the Greater Manchester Battle of the Bands final in Manchester on Sunday, March 9 but did not win.
The Bury event is run by Bury Music, a not-for-profit organisation that offers expert instrumental music tuition and support music education in schools. Mission Nowhere are now “looking forward to” focusing on their original songs and performing gigs in the coming months..
