'It means so much': Roos' coach dedicates win to their 'eighth player'

Corowa-Rutherglen has advanced to the A-grade preliminary final.

There was plenty of blue to be seen around the court at WJ Findlay Oval, as supporters cheered their side to victory.

"It means so much," Roos' playing coach Sophie Hanrahan said. "Obviously we believed we could do this and it just showed today. "It felt like all of Corowa was here and they get just as excited as us.



"They were so loud, which is awesome. "They really are like our eighth player. "Of course you want to win, but you want to win for them and make sure all their hard work is worth it, so to win for them is just amazing.

" Roos' goal attack Indianna Frauenfelder worked tirelessly in the attacking end, while remained calm under the finals pressure to land 30 goals. Amanda Umanski shot 18 goals in what marked 150 games with the Magpies, while provided plenty of pressure in Wangaratta's defence. The Roos had a minor three goal lead at half-time, with a strong third quarter performance helping to set them up for success.

That momentum continued in the fourth term, finishing with an 11-goal lead. Corowa-Rutherglen will now meet Wodonga Raiders in the preliminary final, in what has been the side's first season as teammates. "You have to be a certain person to commit to a team that wasn't around last year," Hanrahan said.

"You have to be pretty special and we showed that today. "They dug deep and I've never seen them play a game like that, it was amazing. "We believed they all had it in them, but it was nice to see it come to fruition today.

" It marks the end of Wangaratta's campaign, who were unlucky with injuries this season. The Magpies finished the home and away season in second spot. DAILY Today's top stories curated by our news team.
