LACHIE Rose had goosebumps when the team bus pulled up ahead of the wholehearted Jets striker's first F3 derby. Login or signup to continue reading And that was in Gosford. Rose will meet the arch enemy on home soil for the first time when the Jets tackle the Mariners at McDonalfd Jones Stadium on Saturday night.

To say he is pumped, is a understatement. "When you get on the field it is do or die," Rose said. "That is how we are approaching it.

"Everyone spoke to me about the F3 derby and I had watched it in the past. When I played in that last one. On the bus and rocking up to the Stadium, I got goosebumps.

"There is a big difference. You can sense the rivarly between the two clubs. "I want those goosebumps again and I want to get the win at home.

"I'm not too sure on the ratio results wise, but Newcastle hasn't won in a while. If we can do that this weekend for the community, it gives them a bit more faith in us." Rose spent four years at Macarthur before joining the Jets this season.

The Bulls play neighhbours Western Sydney, but Wanderers already had an established derby with Sydney. The F3 derby goes back to the inaugural A-League season in 2005. The Jets haven't beaten their bitter enemy at home since Dimi Petratos scored a double in a 4-3 triumph on February 9, 2020.

It has been bad reading for Jets fans since. Loss after loss. Seven straight - 1-0, 2-1, 4-2, 3-1, 1-0, 3-1, 2-1.

The Mariner's derby dominance has coincided with two championships. However, they have slipped down the ladder this season and are 10 th on 25 points, one place and one point behind the Jets. "We just want the win.

I'm sure they will think the same," Rose said. "We will do everything possible to win the match. It is pretty much a war.

" The Jets are coming off a 2-1 defeat to Wellington which squashed any realistic chance they had of making a run for the play-offs. The loss, just the Jets second in 10 games, followed confirmation in the led-up that coach Rob Stanton won't be at the club next season. Former Socceroo Mark Milligan is expected to be appointed in the next fortnight.

Stanton has stressed the importance of finishing the campaign. "It is about us finishing as high as we can and putting pressure on teams above us," he said. "We have some decents games coming up.

We need to get a few more wins, make sure we get over the 30-point mark. "We need to maintain standards. That is something that we have tried to instil in the playing group - high standards.

"It is easy to give up and throw the towel in. I'd like to think, as a group, we have improved enough to keep the standards high. "Last year we did it with ownerswhip issues when people thought we would fall over.

We got better at the back end of the season. "I'd like to think we can do it again." Rose, after missing the 2-1 loss to the Mariners at Allianz Stadium in Unite Round (Novemver 22), due to injury, scored a goal as the Jets came back from 2-0 down for a 2-all draw in Gosford on February 1.

"Anytime I score...

I can't explain how much I love it," Rose said. "In saying that, I am more concerned about how the team plays." James Gardiner, chief football and rugby writer at the Newcastle Herald.
