Israel's heads into cold spell ahead of possible first snow of season

Country sees first significant cold wave for the winter with temperatures expected to drop significantly accompanied by rain, floods and possible snow in the northern peaks

Israel is set to receive its first major cold wave starting on Sunday, with snow also expected in higher altitudes in the country. Early on Sunday, light localized rain fell along Israel's coastal plain. During the day, temperatures will drop significantly, with Monday expected to be particularly cold with a chance of the season's first snow on Mount Hermon according to the Israel Meteorological Service.

Intermittent rain will fall on Sunday in northern and central Israel, spreading to the Negev by midday. warnings of flash flood risks were also reported possible in the Judean Desert and Dead Sea valleys. Strong winds will prevail and localized haze may occur in southern Israel.

Temperatures are forecast to drop by about 10°C (18°F) compared to Saturday's readings. In Tel Aviv, Monday's high is expected to reach 17°C (63°F) compared to 26°C (79°F) on Saturday. In Be’er Sheva, the high will be 16°C (61°F) compared to 26°C (79°F) and in Jerusalem, just 11°C (52°F) compared to 22°C (72°F) on Saturday.
