The first part was well appreciated for its bold and honest portrayal of social justice problems. Mulk, the 2018 courtroom drama film featuring Taapsee Pannu , Ashutosh Rana and the late actor Rishi Kapoor in the titular roles, was widely praised for its brave and honest portrayal of social justice issues. New reports suggest that the director is currently working on the film’s sequel, titled Mulk 2, with Taapsee in the lead and Gaurav Solanki as the writer.

A source told Times Now, “Anubhav has begun filming his next with Taapsee. Like Mulk, the movie explores a socially relevant theme." The first part focused on the discrimination experienced by a Muslim family.

However, it is unclear whether Mulk 2 continues from where the first left off or is a spiritual sequel. The film will reportedly also feature Manoj Pahwa in a significant role. He was also a part of Mulk and portrayed the role of Rishi Kapoor’s brother.

This comes days after Taapsee hinted at her reunion with the director during Thappad’s half-a-decade release celebrations. However, an official confirmation from the makers of Mulk 2 is still awaited. The release date of the film is yet to be announced.

Anubhav is regarded as one of the most socially and politically aware filmmakers in Bollywood. He is known for his films that explore hard themes and generate conversations about urgent societal problems. He has helmed projects like Article 15, Thappad, Anek, Article 15 and Afwah.

Apart from these, he has also made some masala entertainers like Ra. One, Dus, Cash, Tathasthu and others. His last project was the web series IC814: The Kandahar Hijack, which premiered on the OTT Giant Netflix and garnered positive reviews from fans and critics alike.

The show featured celebs like Vijay Varma, Patralekhaa, Manoj Pahwa, Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur, Dia Mirza and others in the leads. Taapsee, on the other hand, was last seen in director Mudassar Aziz’s Khel Khel Mein. She currently has a family entertainer, Woh Ladki Hai Kahan, with Prateik Gandhi and a thriller, Gandhari, in her kitty.
