Pune: Pune and its surrounding areas are witnessing a significant dip in temperatures due to an active cold wave. On Wednesday morning, the city recorded its coldest day of the season, with the mercury dropping below 10 degrees Celsius for the first time this year. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts further declines in temperatures over the coming days, with an increased chill factor becoming more noticeable.
The NDA weather station reported Pune’s lowest temperature at 8.9 degrees Celsius, while Shivajinagar recorded 9.9 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.
This marked the third consecutive day of a sharp drop in temperatures, a trend that the IMD expects to persist in the coming days. Unusual November Dip Attributed to Cyclone Fengal IMD officials have noted that this significant temperature dip is unusual for November. According to Anupam Kashyapi, former head of weather forecasting at IMD, the unusual chill is primarily due to Cyclone Fengal.
The powerful cyclone is drawing moisture away from Maharashtra, allowing cold northern winds to penetrate the state. Additionally, the absence of cloud cover has led to surface cooling, further intensifying the drop in temperatures, as per an Indian Express report. Notable Temperature Records On Wednesday, Pune experienced its lowest temperature of the season, with Shivajinagar recording 9.
9 degrees Celsius and NDA emerging as the coldest location in the city at 8.9 degrees Celsius. Pashan also reported a significant dip, with the minimum temperature at 9.
1 degrees Celsius. Daytime Heat Adds to the Chill Factor While nights are exceptionally cold, daytime temperatures remain relatively high, with most areas in Pune recording maximum temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius. This sharp contrast between day and night temperatures is contributing to a heightened chill factor, making the cold more pronounced during the evenings and early mornings.
Residents can expect the chilly conditions to continue, with IMD forecasting persistent cold winds and minimal cloud cover over the region. Get Latest News Live on Times Now along with Breaking News and Top Headlines from Pune and around the world..
