Rebecca Brotman, PhD, MPH, studies the human vaginal microbiome and its suceptibility to sexually transmitted diseases and Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) at the Center for Advanced Microbiome Research & Innovation (CAMRI) at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. A recent study that made media headlines showed that treating male partners of women with BV at the same time as the women lessened recurrence of BV thus "making it an STD." While that's good news, Dr.

Brotman points out that even non-sexually active women can get BV, therefore it should not be labeled an STD. BV is a complex condition that needs more research & treatment options. She is available for media interviews.
