The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has extended an invitation to Ndigbo worldwide to return to their homeland for the Christmas celebrations, pledging to ensure their safety through the Eastern Security Network (ESN). In a statement released by Comrade Emma Powerful, IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, the group emphasized its commitment to addressing insecurity in the South East region and fostering peace and development during the festive season. IPOB described Alaigbo as a historically peaceful and harmonious region, urging all Igbos to contribute to maintaining tranquility, which is vital for economic progress.

“We need peace to thrive as a strategic economic hub in Africa. Every Igbo man and woman must work towards peace and security in Alaigbo,” the statement declared. IPOB warned criminals to stay away from the region, particularly during the Christmas season. The group assured that ESN operatives, alongside IPOB volunteers, are actively patrolling the area to eliminate threats and ensure a crime-free festive period. The group accused the Nigerian government of using insecurity as a pretext to militarize the region, alleging that indiscriminate military checkpoints have become hotspots for extortion and harassment of travelers.

“We call for the dismantling of all indiscriminate and illegal military, police, and other checkpoints in the South East. These checkpoints are sources of extortion, intimidation, and harassment of travelers,” IPOB stated. IPOB highlighted the critical role of ESN operatives in safeguarding the region’s forests and bushes, preventing criminal elements from using them as hideouts.

Residents were encouraged to utilize published security contact numbers to report any suspicious activities. “Our ESN operatives are working to ensure criminals cannot operate freely. We are committed to making the South East safe for all during this festive period and beyond,” the statement assured.

IPOB concluded its statement by urging all stakeholders to prioritize peace and development in Alaigbo. The group reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives, property, and investments, encouraging Biafrans to reconnect with their homeland.
