After parting his ways from Delhi Capitals (DC), Ricky Ponting is now to take over as the head coach of Punjab Kings before the IPL 2025 season. Ponting was the head coach of DC since 2008, but then the franchise decided to end their 7-year partnership with him. Ponting is hence reported to be in talk with Punjab Kings and could possibly succeed Trevor Bayliss.
PBKS has never won an IPL title till date, though they sure reached the final in the 2014 and lost to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). PBKS have only been successful in their playoffs once, apart from the 2014 season and now they will be hoping that Ponting can help them improve their performance. Ponting has reportedly been appointed as the head coach of the franchise.
The IPL 2025 will be a crucial year for Punjab kings, who will also have to now look for a new skipper since Punjab Kings have had multiple coaches and a lot of changes in the past, Ponting is going to be their sixth head coach in seven seasons. With the IPL 2025 auctions nearing in, Ponting will turn out to have a crucial call to make as he will sit with the management to decide which players to retain. PBKS has to make some important decisions in the upcoming couple of weeks as they wait for BCCI’s decision on hoy many retentions will be allowed.
