Regarding the upcoming mega auction, sources close to the BCCI confirmed to IANS that it is expected to be held either at the end of November or early December. “The IPL 2025 auction will be scheduled for late November or early December this year.
The rules will be released in the next couple of days,” BCCI sources told IANS. The much-hyped 2021 mega auction was pushed into next year, courtesy of the Covid-19 pandemic. In both the instances, teams extended the tenure of their players for another year as allowance for the delay.
Similar to the 2022 auction held in February and the auctions in December 2023 and 2024, the upcoming IPL mega sale is expected to span two days. In the 2022 mega auction, IPL teams were allowed to retain up to four players. As the end of the three-year cycle approaches, there is debate among franchises regarding the ideal number of retained players.
