twitter.com/lAUD5XhZwV — MacRumors.com (@MacRumors) November 20, 2024 This new model, tentatively named the iPhone 17 Air, is anticipated to have a thickness between 5mm and 6mm.
However, this ultra-slim design will necessitate certain trade-offs, such as a reduced battery size and the inclusion of only a single camera. According to a recent report by Wayne Ma and Qianer Liu from Information, the iPhone 17 Air aims to achieve its sleek appearance by incorporating a single rear camera, which is expected to feature a 48-megapixel sensor. The front-facing camera is projected to have a 24-megapixel sensor for selfies and FaceTime interactions.
Furthermore, the iPhone 17 Air is likely to forgo a physical SIM card tray, opting instead for eSIM technology exclusively. While this aligns with Apple's trend towards eSIM-only devices in the United States, it may pose limitations for users in areas where eSIM adoption remains low. Additionally, the device is expected to eliminate the bottom-edge speaker, a common feature in recent iPhones, and will instead utilize a single speaker located in the earpiece due to spatial limitations.
Connectivity may also be affected, as the device is rumored to incorporate an Apple-designed 5G modem that may not support ultra-fast mmWave 5G, potentially leading to slower data speeds compared to Qualcomm's existing modems. iPhone 17 ‘Air’ new details 🚨 Would you buy one? An aluminum frame will provide durability while contributing to the device's lightweight construction.
