4FM Tech Tuesday: Drama in Space! The price reductions are largely due to the strengthening of the South African rand against the US dollar. This currency appreciation has allowed Apple to offer the iPhone 16 series at more competitive prices. The iPhone 16, the first in the series designed with artificial intelligence in mind, is the cheapest base model at R20,999.

This represents a 4.5% reduction from the iPhone 15’s launch price. The 256GB and 512GB variants also offer similar price drops.

The iPhone 16 Plus and Pro models have seen comparable price reductions, with the 128GB iPhone 16 Pro retailing for R26,499, down 4.3% from its predecessor. The most expensive iPhone 16 Pro Max variant, priced at R42,499, is 5.

6% cheaper than its predecessor. In addition to the iPhone 16 series, Apple’s new Apple Watch Series 10 will also be available for purchase in South Africa on September 20th. Prices start at R9,899 for the Wi-Fi-only model and R12,399 for the model with integrated eSim.
