Apple is preparing to showcase iOS 19, the upcoming version of its iPhone operating system, at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025 scheduled for June. In advance of this highly anticipated announcement, a recent report has emerged detailing the compatibility of the update, indicating that the tech giant based in Cupertino may discontinue support for the iPhone XR and several other models. This could imply that these devices will not receive the latest OS update from Apple.

According to a private account on X (formerly Twitter) known for its reliable information on iOS compatibility, 9to5Mac has reported that the update will exclude the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max. These models were introduced during Apple's September event in 2018 and are all equipped with the A12 Bionic chipset, suggesting that support for this chipset may be phased out. If this speculation proves to be true, it would mean that the iPhone 11 and newer models, as well as the iPhone SE (2020) and later versions, will qualify for the iOS 19 update.

However, it is important to note that not all devices will have access to the same features. For example, Apple launched its AI suite, known as Apple Intelligence, last year, which remains exclusive to the iPhone 16 series and the iPhone 15 Pro models, specifically those utilizing the A17 Pro SoC and higher. Additionally, the report suggests that Apple may also discontinue support for one of its iPad models.

The seventh-generation iPad (2019), which operates on the A10 Fusion SoC, is expected to be excluded from the anticipated iPadOS 19 update. Also Read: Apple’s foldable iPhone may feature liquid metal hinge for a smoother fold.
