Macrumors has identified a new "Share Item Location" feature integrated into the Find My app in the recent iOS 18.2 beta 2 update, allowing users to share the location of an item designated as lost with a third party. The feature's description indicates that it is intended to assist users in locating lost items with the aid of another person, such as a taxi driver or an airline employee who can access the item's location.

When iOS 18.2 becomes available to all users, the Find My app will feature an option to share an item's location, generating a link that can be utilized across various platforms to view the lost item's location on a map. Apple states that the location can be shared "with an airline or a trusted person.

" Beta testers can now share their location not only with their contacts and users of Apple devices but also with airline personnel who may not be included in their contact lists. This functionality extends to Windows and Android devices, in addition to Apple's own products. To safeguard user privacy, Apple has implemented certain restrictions on this new feature.

For instance, a link generated through the Share Item Location feature remains active for one week or until the item is returned to its owner. Additionally, Apple will provide users with information regarding the number of individuals who have accessed the link, as reported. What’s new in iOS 18.
