Ioniq 9 Breaks Cover As Hyundai's New Flagship Three-Row Electric SUV

The Hyundai Ioniq 9 is based on the E-GMP platform, which also underpins the Kia EV9. The new three-row electric SUV will first go on sale in South Korea and the United States, arriving in other markets, including India, later.

The Hyundai Ioniq 9 has been unveiled. The new three-row electric SUV from the South Korean automaker is based on the Kia EV9, which made its global debut a year ago. The Ioniq 9 uses Hyundai's E-GMP platform, which is used on other electric models from the brand, such as the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6.

Hyundai will showcase the Ioniq 9 at the 2024 LA Auto Show. The new three-row electric SUV will first go on sale in the United States and South Korea. Europe and other markets, including India, will get it later.

The Long-Range will have rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive options, while the Performance will be available with all-wheel-drive as standard. The Long-Range Rear-wheel-drive Ioniq 9 features a single electric motor mounted on the rear axle. It produces 218 hp and 350 Nm of peak torque.

Long-range all-wheel-drive variants get an additional electric motor on the front wheels, which produces 95 hp and 255 Nm of peak torque. All Ioniq 9 variants will be available with a 110 kWh battery pack. According to the WLTP cycle, the Long-Range Rear-Wheel-Drive variant offers a range of 620 km.

The Ioniq 9 Performance has two 218 hp electric motors, one placed on each end. Hyundai claims a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 5.2 seconds for the Performance model with a 200 km/h top speed.

For the Ioniq 9 Long-Range RWD, 0 to 100 km/h comes in 9.4 seconds, while Long-Range AWD can do it in 6.7 seconds.

To tackle snow and mild off-road terrain, Hyundai has given the Ioniq 9 dynamic torque vectoring and terrain traction control. A 12-inch touchscreen infotainment and a 12-inch digital gauge cluster are merged into a single floating display.

You also get ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, multi-zone automatic climate control, and an 8-speak sound system. Creature comforts on the Hyundai Ioniq 9 include massage functions on all seats in the first and second rows. The second row of this e-SUV can swivel 180 degrees to face the third row, but only when the vehicle is not moving.
