ISLAMABAD - Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday directed the Passport Office to ensure blocking passports of those citizens who are deported from abroad, as part of the federal government’s efforts to check illegal immigration and beggary by Pakistani nationals in the Gulf. He gave these directions while chairing a high-level meeting during his visit to the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports. Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Secretary Interior Muhammad Khurram Agha, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director General Riffat Mukhtar Raja and Passports DG Mustafa Jamal Qazi were also present on the occasion.
The interior minister said 100 percent implementation should be ensured on the directive to block the passports of deported people. Presiding over the meeting, Naqvi directed that all legal formalities regarding the new requirements for obtaining passports must be completed as a priority. He said the new criteria would serve as a deterrent against beggary and illegal immigration.
US stocks down as trade war with China escalates Talal Chaudhry said that this decision would send a positive message to the international community. The minister also inspected the newly-installed six MRP (machine-readable passport) and two e-passport machines. He also met with the German team visiting Pakistan for the installation of the machines.
He said the new machines would enhance the printing capacity of the Passport Office, which would further expedite the issuance of passports for the public. DG Passports Qazi gave a detailed briefing to Naqvi about the functions and performance of the directorate general. He informed him that a mobile app would be launched soon for the convenience of citizens.
