Last December, Suarez joined Inter Miami on an initial one-year contract to reunite with his former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi , Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba . Suarez showcased his talents during his first year in Miami, scoring 20 goals and providing nine assists in 27 appearances in the regular season, helping his team win the Supporters' Shield with a record-breaking points tally. The Uruguayan also found the net in Inter Miami's 2-1 victory over Atlanta United in the first round of the MLS playoffs.
Unfortunately for Suarez and his teammates, the Herons lost the final two games of their series with Atalanta, bringing an abrupt end to what had been a successful season up until that point. © Imago Suarez is seemingly keen to launch another MLS Cup bid in 2025, having penned a new contract to keep him at the club for another year. "I'm very happy, very excited to continue for another year and to be able to enjoy being here with this fanbase, which for us is like family," Suarez told the Inter Miami website.
"We feel very, very connected with them, and hopefully, next year, we can bring them even more joy." Commenting on the new deal, Inter Miami President of Football Operations Raul Sanllehi said: "In 2024, Luis brought to Inter Miami all of the elements that make him one of the greatest strikers of all time. He performed at an elite level for us, and we're excited to see that continue next season.
"Luis was not only our leading scorer this season, but also a leader for the group. His impact cannot be understated." © Imago The striker's contract announcement comes just one day after his former Barcelona teammate, Javier Mascherano , was unveiled as Tata Martino 's successor.
Mascherano has left his role as Argentina's Under-20 boss to take on his first role in senior management, signing a deal with Inter Miami until the end of 2027. The Argentine will hope that with the likes of Messi and Suarez at his disposal, he can lead Inter Miami to their first MLS Cup in 2025. Inter Miami will also have the chance to compete with some of the world's best teams when they take part in next year's newly expanded Club World Cup after being invited to the tournament by FIFA president Gianni Infantino .
