An institutional abuse survivor has been awarded £80,000 in one of the "most severe cases" heard by the redress board, say Madden & Finucane solicitors. The Historical Institutional Abuse Redress Board which was established on March 31, 2020 to hear applications from people who were abused in State Institutions across Northern Ireland between 1922 and 1995 and will not be taking any new cases after April 2, 2025. Madden & Finucane, which has represented some of the survivors in the process, said their client, who suffered one of the most severe cases, obtained the maximum award available of £80,000.

"The Panel noted this is one of the most severe cases which it has come across in relation to impact. "This is the second compensation award being granted by the Board for our clients this week, with another client being awarded £35,000 in compensation.
" The Historical Institutional Abuse Redress Board have advised that they will no longer receive applications for compensation from 2nd April 2025.
