Inspectors' good rating for service stopping children committing crime

A Norfolk service which aims to stop children from committing crimes has been given a 'good' rating by inspectors.

A Norfolk service which tries to stop children from committing crimes has been given a 'good' rating after an inspection by watchdogs. Norfolk Youth Justice Service received the rating after inspectors checked how it was performing for the first time in 12 years. Inspectors from His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Probation visited the service, which a number of organisations, including Norfolk County Council, district councils, police and the NHS are involved with, in October.

The service aims to prevent children from offending , to help them repair the damage they cause victims and to help youngsters achieve their potential. In their report, inspectors said staff were "motivated" and went "above and beyond" to support the children they work with. " Inspectors praised how the wishes and needs of victims were taken account of and how children's strengths and aspirations were considered when planning interventions. The service will develop an action plan for improvements.
