Trent Alexander and Jordan Henderson tried their utmost to convince Jude Bellingham to join Liverpool during the 2022 World Cup , Conor Coady has revealed. The Reds were long-term admirers of Bellingham, 20, while the England international was still on the books at Borussia Dortmund and being courted by most of Europe's elite. It was believed Bellingham was a top target for Liverpool last summer at a time where Jurgen Klopp was planning to overhaul his midfield.

It was Real Madrid , though, who won the race for the former Birmingham City prodigy's signature after Liverpool stepped back. Before that move materialised, Liverpool fans have been mischievously speculating on social media that Alexander-Arnold and Henderson had been trying to entice Bellingham into joining them at Anfield during the World Cup in late 2022 - and Coady has now confirmed that theory. The Everton defender, who was part of England's World Cup squad in Qatar , joked to BBC 5 Live Sport : “I think Hendo and Trent tried with Jude at the World Cup, I do, 100 percent.
