Richard Osman steps into the spotlight on Michael McIntyre's hit game show on BBC One tonight, showcasing his expertise as a celebrity guest. At 53 years of age, Osman has carved out a successful career not only as a TV presenter but also as a celebrated novelist and comedian. Osman's acclaimed Thursday Murder Club series has caught the attention of Netflix , with big names attached to its film adaptation in the pipeline.

Additionally, Richard is famed for being the brains behind and former face of the popular game show Pointless. Born and raised in Billericay, Essex, he has been candid about his difficult childhood experiences, such as the moment when at just nine years old, his father walked out on their family. He shared the profound impact it had, causing enduring hardships for him and his mother.

Describing the traumatic event, he said, "It was the worst thing that ever happened to me," reflecting on the two-decade absence of his father. "He just left and I didn't see him again for 20 years that's hard." He went on to convey how such an event can knock you off course: "It derails you and it takes a long time to get back on track.

It takes you a lot longer to mature and find yourself." Despite eventually reuniting with his father after 20 years, Richard confessed the lack of emotional connection between them. On the subject of whether he felt heartbroken, he acknowledged: "Of course.

But the heart doesn't lie. It would be lovely to have that father-son relationship, but there isn't a connection." Exploring the depths of their estranged relationship, he added, "If you haven't seen your dad for 20 years you expect something and I would have loved it if we could have been best buddies.

" "I'm thankful I have the relationship I now have with my dad. He's a perfectly nice fella I think he's just one of those people who married the wrong person but I don't feel it in my heart. Which is sad," he confessed to The Mirror.

He always maintained an extremely close bond with his mother Brenda, even going as far as purchasing her a lavish home for her retirement on the South Downs of West Sussex. Richard also has an elder brother, Mat, who plays bass for the popular indie band Suede. He first encountered future Suede frontman Brett Anderson in Haywards Heath, where they performed together in early garage bands such as The Pigs and Suave And Elegant.

Mat, who is also a writer, saw his debut novel, The Ruins, published in February 2020 and has since penned two more. Richard is a father to two children from his first marriage that ended in divorce. In December 2022, he tied the knot with British actress Ingrid Oliver, whom he met during her stint on Richard Osman's House Of Games.

As of 2021, he resided in Chiswick, West London..
