The England hooker's condition is described as "improving" and whether he plays at the weekend in the game against Catalans in Perpignan depends on how he comes through training tomorrow. Clark is a key element of the Saints spine, but if he does not come through tomorrow's session then they are blessed with alternatives in that area. Wellens said: "Daryl is improving well.
He was very sore for a couple of days after the Warrington match, but as days are going by he's improving. "We train on Thursday morning so all being well he will make the trip to the south of France but we will have to see how he trains first." If he is not fit then Jake Burns and Moses Mbye are both options to slot in at nine - with the latter impressing off the bench against the Wire last Friday.
"Burnsy has always done a fantastic job whenever he has come into the side and brings that enthusiasm and energy to whatever we do," Wellens said. "I thought Moses was really good in his first full Super League game for a long while on Friday night. "I thought he impacted on our performance in a really positive way, which was great to see as well.
So we do have options there." There were no other casualties from the intense, absorbing game - the first of three in 34 days against the Wolves. Wellens said: "It is just bumps and bruises and niggles, which we'll get from games like that.
"But generally squad health from the guys that played in that game is pretty good." Joe Batchelor, who missed last week after failing his HIA in the previous week's Challenge Cup game against Leeds, has ticked all the relevant boxes in his recovery and available to play. "He has done all of the protocols that are required and feels good and is looking forward to being back involved," Wellens said.
Meanwhile winger Kyle Feldt underwent surgery - deemed as successful - on Friday and is now in a 12-week recovery..
