The Community Building/City Hall in Baxter will be the site of another in-person informational meeting about Jasper County’s November 5th Bond Election. The Jasper County Supervisors want voters to approve $6,400,000 in general obligation or capital loan notes to pay for a new Secondary Roads maintenance building and shop. Some of the money would also be used by Jasper County Conservation to furnish a classroom at the soon to be under construction Environmental Education Center on the east edge of Newton.
Bond revenue would also be used by the Conservation Department to create an outdoor Archery Range with equipment by that center, and build new maintenance shops at Mariposa Recreational Area and Jacob Krumm Nature Preserve. Bond revenue would also cover the cost of transforming the former Jasper County Animal Rescue League building, southeast of the County Sheriff’s Department and Jail, into a Sheriff’s Office Training Facility. The County Board of Supervisors say passage of the referendum will not result in a tax increase, because the County has a significant amount of other debt coming off the books next year.
This evening’s in-person town hall meeting at the Baxter Community Building and City Hall begins at 6:30 p.m..
