The on-loan Luton Town forward heads into tomorrow’s FA Trophy clash with Southport having netted seven goals in his last six games. But Pepple is not thinking too far ahead. “I’m loving it here but my future is not in my hands,” said Pepple.
“I take it day by day but I’m honestly loving it here and just want to keep on scoring goals to help the team.” Pepple’s latest strike secured a 1-0 win for the Shrimpers at Braintree Town on New Year’s Day. And the 22 year-old was pleased to ensure Kevin Maher’s side picked up all three points.
“It felt good to get the win and that’s what we set out to do,” said Pepple. “It’s a good start to the new year and we want to keep it going now.” Pepple now has 11 goals in all competitions for the Shrimpers this season.
And he sits just one goal above Gus Scott-Morriss in the race to be the club’s top scorer. “Gus is trying to tell me it’s league goals only but I’ll take it because I was tired of having a right-back ahead of me. “Give it a couple more games and hopefully I’ll pass him in the league as well.
” However, Pepple was frustrated not to add to his tally against Braintree as he fired wide of the left post when well placed in the penalty area just moments after breaking the deadlock. “Credit to my team-mates because I should have put that second one in and put the game to bed,” said Pepple. “It could have cost us but the back-line have been brilliant.
“The way they defended everything probably saved me because I don’t know how I would’ve lived with myself if they had equalised. “But we’ll take it and look to continue. “It’s about climbing up the league now because we’re still not where we want to be.
” Blues sit 14th in the table heading into this weekend’s FA Trophy fourth round tie. And Pepple is keen to again repay the faith being shown in him by boss Kevin Maher. “When I came I probably didn’t have the resume or whatever but the gaffer has put his trust in me,” said Pepple.
“Even some games when I haven’t performed the best he’s left me on and I’m trying to repay that faith. “It’s the most I’ve ever played and I’m trying to show why he should keep on playing me. “I’m thankful for the opportunity.
