Pune: Several industry associations from Pune and surrounding areas have raised the issues they faced during a meeting with the representatives of respective government departments. They highlighted the problems of electricity supply and transmission, access roads, metro connectivity to industrial areas, water supply, sanitation, garbage management, availability of land and pollution regulation compliances during the joint meeting hosted by the Mahratta Chambers of Commerce Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) on March 12. Industry associations from Pune, Ranjangaon, Pimpri Chinchwad, Bhosari, Chakan, Hinjewadi, Shivane, Hadapsar, Talawade and Lonavla were part of the meeting.
Stakeholders also suggested creating an exclusive industrial estate for the tooling industry, which is the crucial support segment for automotive and engineering companies that are present in large numbers. Industry bodies also sought quicker development of the Chakan truck terminus, which aims to improve the supply chain and improve traffic. Pune district collector Jitendra Dudi, during the meeting, committed to organising such sessions every two months, giving continuity to the dialogue between industry and govt authorities.
Dudi also stressed the need to improve the ease of doing business on priority. The collector said approvals required by industries in their daily operations are being cleared on a single portal. Companies in Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) areas can submit their issues relating to other departments to MIDC officials, which will be forwarded to the right authorities to address their issues.
Some of the other officials present at the meeting included Pune divisional commissioner Chandrakant Pulkundwar, chief engineer of MIDC Pune Nitin Wankhede, sub-regional officer of MPCB Pune Navnath Awatade and additional commissioner of labour department Abhay Gite. "The commitment of top officials from state govt based in Pune will ensure that the flow of investments from domestic and multinational companies continues with greater intensity. This will also ensure additional job creation and overall economic development of the region," Prashant Girbane, director general of MCCIA, said.
