Industrial areas soak in festive spirit across state

Bhubaneswar/Kendrapada: Vishwakarma Puja was celebrated with religious fervour in industries, factories, workshops, electronics and automobiles shops here on Monday. Apart from engineers and architects, artisans and craftsmen also worshipped the lord of architecture and wished for safety and prosperity. Industrial towns like Rourkela, Talcher, Angul, Jharsuguda, Kalinga Nagar, Hirakud, Balasore soaked in festive spirit on the occasion.

The industrial estates in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack made elaborate arrangements for grand celebration. “In most years, Vishwakarma Puja is celebrated on Sept 17, but there are exceptions and this year it was celebrated on Sept 16. From small garages and workshops to big factories and industries, Vishwakarma Puja is being celebrated with religious fervour,” said Biranchi Narayan Pati, a priest.



Markets in the twin cities were abuzz as people thronged markets for last minute purchases, including idols, decorations and prasad. “We celebrate Vishwakarma Puja with much fanfare in our automobile workshop. Till late last night we cleaned and decorated the workshop and today morning we got a idol of Lord Vishwakarma for the puja,” said Kunal Samal, a mechanic.

Transportation and construction companies suspended works on Monday and allowed workers to engage in festivities. Long queues of vehicles were seen at Vishwakarma Temple where welders, plumbers, carpenters, came to offer prayers in the temple. Around 35 puja committees have come up with their pandals. “The cost of organising Vishwakarma puja has gone up this year. Some pandals have shelled out Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh for light decorations,” said Srikant Parida, president of a puja committee in Paradip.
