India-UAE ties: Sheikh Hamdan, Modi chart new vistas of cooperation

New Delhi: In a historic meeting held in New Delhi, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence of the UAE, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi charted new ways to further deepen their strategic partnership. On a two-day landmark visit coinciding with the third anniversary of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the two countries, the leaders signalled stronger ties poised to reshape regional and global dynamics. Sheikh Hamdan underlined that the next phase of cooperation would bring even greater gains across key sectors, including trade, tourism, infrastructure, energy, food security, technology, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and space.

The leaders highlighted collaboration in healthcare, education, defense, and other vital areas for both countries’ development agendas. Advancing cooperation, they discussed leveraging the CEPA and the Bilateral Investment Treaty to boost investment and joint ventures. Modi hailed Dubai’s key role in advancing the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.



“This special visit reaffirms our deep-rooted friendship and paves the way for even stronger collaboration in the future,” Modi wrote on X. The leaders aimed to enhance mutual investments and partnerships between the private sectors in the UAE and India, exploring the potential for establishing new partnerships that capitalise on economic development in both countries. Their meeting also delved into regional and international affairs, with both leaders advocating for dialogue as a cornerstone for resolving disputes, ensuring stability, and fostering prosperity.

Sheikh Hamdan acknowledged the Indian community’s role in the UAE’s development and stressed the inclusive environment created for residents. Praising India’s economic transformation under Modi’s leadership, Sheikh Hamdan looked forward to evolving the bilateral partnership to address global challenges and seize emerging opportunities. Sheikh Hamdan also met Minister of External Affairs Dr.

S. Jaishankar and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, where he explored ways to further cooperation and enhance collaboration in vital areas, including defence industries, military training, skills development, and technology transfer. The launch of joint projects to enhance overall defence capabilities, in line with the countries’ shared interest in strengthening their strategic partnership, was also discussed.
