S. Trade Representative convened in Washington, D.C.
from April 23-25, 2025. This meeting followed previous bilateral discussions held in March 2025 in New Delhi. During the meetings in Washington, D.
C., the representatives engaged in fruitful discussions on various topics, including both tariff and non-tariff matters. They deliberated on the pathway to concluding the first tranche of the mutually beneficial, multi-sector Bilateral Trade Agreement by Fall 2025, aiming to identify opportunities for early mutual gains.
While productive sectoral expert-level engagements have taken place virtually, in-person sectoral engagements are scheduled to begin at the end of May. These productive discussions are part of bilateral efforts aligned with the Leaders’ Statement of February 2025, which aims to enhance and expand India-U.S.
economic ties and supply chain integration through the Bilateral Trade Agreement. The latest round of talks reaffirms the strategic intent of both nations to expand bilateral trade, enhance investment opportunities, and build resilient and trusted supply chains. The agreement is expected to touch on key sectors such as digital trade, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and manufacturing, among others.
As the world’s largest and fifth-largest economies respectively, a robust India-U.S. trade pact is seen as a vital step toward regional economic stability, technological cooperation, and market access for businesses on both sides.
