India, a country with over 1.42 billion people and significant pollution, is grappling with a severe shortage of organ donations. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India lags far behind the global average when it comes to organ donation rates.
Data reveals that approximately 1.8 lakh people in India suffer from renal failure, yet only about 6,000 manage to undergo kidney transplants annually. Similarly, liver failure and liver cancer claim an estimated 2,00,000 lives in India each year.
While the country requires between 25,000 and 30,000 transplants annually, only around 1,500 procedures are carried out each year. One of the critical challenges lies in a lack of awareness. Every person who dies, whether naturally or in an accident, is a potential organ donor, but many are unaware of this opportunity to save lives.
To tackle this situation and raise awareness about the importance of organ donation, Jupiter Hospital in Thane has organized a marathon on January 5, 2025, it will start at 5:30 AM from Singhania School, and aims to educate the public and encourage organ donation pledges. Dr Ajay P. Thakker, Chairman and Managing Director of Jupiter Hospitals, stated, “At Jupiter Hospital, we believe in going beyond healthcare by inspiring positive change in our community.
The Jupiter Marathon Thane’25 is not just a race; it’s a movement to raise awareness about the life-saving impact of organ donation. Through initiatives like 'My Organ Project,' we aim to educate and empower people to make a pledge that can give someone else a second chance at life. Together, let’s run for health, hope, and humanity.
” With participants from all walks of life joining the marathon, the event will help spread crucial awareness about the life-saving importance of organ donation. Get Latest News Live on Times Now along with Breaking News and Top Headlines from Health and around the world..
