Suspense crime, Digital Desk : India is mulling over an absolute prohibition of granting Indian airspace to Pakistani aircraft, which will undoubtedly affect Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Southeast Asian routes. Government sources quoted by the Times of India indicate that this would compel the Pakistani carriers to take expensive longer routes via China or Sri Lanka to get to Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, and even Bangkok. Such an airspace restriction undeclared back in 1971 forced Pakistan to reroute flights through Sri Lanka which resulted in increased operational challenges for their airlines.
Further Attempts to Curb Pakistani Economic Activity Alongside the airspace measures, India is reported to be considering an outright ban on Pakistani vessels docking at Indian ports. These measures are aimed at increasing the already heightened economic pressure on Islamabad as diplomatic relations further deteriorate. These changes follow Pakistan's decision to close its airspace for Indian operators, which was a direct result of India's perceived diplomatic and military overreach post the Pahalgam terror attack where two of the assailants were determined to be Pakistani nationals.
