India calls for fair trial for Chinmoy Das

India continues to press for a fair and transparent legal process for religious leader Chinmoy Krishna Das, arrested in Bangladesh on sedition charges. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will travel to Dhaka next week for bilateral talks, including a potential meeting with Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, amidst ongoing diplomatic tensions.

Chinmoy Krishna Das India reiterated Friday its demand for a fair and just legal process for religious leader Chinmoy Krishna Das , who was arrested in Bangladesh on sedition charges , while confirming that foreign secretary Vikram Misri will travel to Dhaka next week for Foreign Office Consultations. The talks will take place on Dec 9 and Misri is also likely to call on chief adviser Muhammad Yunus during the visit. Bangladesh last month announced the FOC, an institutional dialogue mechanism between foreign secretaries to review entire gamut of bilateral relationship, but India had not confirmed it amid another diplomatic flare up with the interim govt in Dhaka over the arrest of Das.

“We would like to reiterate our expectation that relevant legal processes underway in Bangladesh are executed in a fair, just and transparent manner, ensuring full respect for the legal rights of concerned individuals,” the MEA spokesperson said.
