New Delhi: The government plans to develop a self-sufficient space communications sector , including opportunities to manufacture satellites and launch services. Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia met space communications majors on December 10, including Eutelsat Oneweb , Jio-SES , Hughes Communications, etc to suggest ideas about what needs to be done to develop the local space sector. “Chaired a productive Stakeholder Advisory Meeting with the stakeholders of the Satellite Communication Ecosystem.
Together, we discussed the challenges and strategies to make India a global and regional hub for satellite communication services. Also explored opportunities for India to manufacture indigenous satellites and launch services, thereby strengthening the resolve of #AatmanirbharBharat,” Scindia said in a post on X. Advt People privy to the details said during the meeting, it was discussed how IN-SPACe – an autonomous central regulatory body, can play a key role in achieving the space ambitions of the country.
Apart from the satellite communications meeting, Scindia also met players from the internet service providers (ISPs) and infrastructure providers (IPs). “The discussions focused on the role of ISPs in improving cost-effectiveness of the telecom sector and optimising its operational efficiencies to support both the ISPs and the consumers,” the Minister said in a separate post on X. Scindia had constituted six stakeholder advisory committees (SACs) to provide insights to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) on various matters.
Industry thought leaders, top executives, academicians, researchers, entrepreneurs and startups are members of the advisory committees. DoT aims to implement the recommendations derived from the SACs and to foster growth of the telecom sector.
