Incumbent Brown leading GOP opponent Milliman in HD 12

The first round of election results released Tuesday night showed state Rep. Kyle Brown (D-Louisville) leading GOP opponent Mark Milliman by 56 percentage points in the race for House District 12 of the state Legislature.

The first round of election results released Tuesday night showed state Rep. Kyle Brown (D-Louisville) leading GOP opponent Mark Milliman by 56 percentage points in the race for House District 12 of the state Legislature. Brown had 78.

3% of the 34,584 votes tallied, and Milliman had 21.7%, as of 7:30 p.m.



House District 12 includes parts of Louisville, Lafayette, Superior and Niwot. Brown, 41, was appointed to the House District 12 seat in early 2023, and he previously spent three years serving on the Louisville City Council. He has lived in Louisville for 27 years and has a professional background in public service and health care that includes senior roles in two Colorado governors’ administrations.

Brown, who grew up attending school in the Boulder Valley School District, holds a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University and a Ph.D. from Harvard University.

Some of his major policy priorities include expanding access to health care, protecting the community from environmental pollution and keeping guns out of schools. Milliman, 60, is an electrical engineer with more than 30 years of experience in technology and telecommunications. He serves as vice chairman of the Boulder County Republicans and has been a state activist for the National Motorists Association as well as a member of Judicial Performance Committee for the 20th Judicial District.

Milliman’s stated policy priorities include reducing government spending, eliminating some regulations and lowering the costs of energy and transportation to slow inflation. He earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Iowa State University and his master’s degree from Carnegie-Mellon University. As of 7:30 p.
