MORRISVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — Research Triangle travelers now have a direct route to a British island territory in the Atlantic Ocean known for being part of another famous triangle.
On Friday, the first BermudAir flight arrived at Raleigh-Durham International Airport from L.F. Wade International Airport in Bermuda.
It is the first time there has been commercial nonstop service between the two airports."Thousands of travelers fly between RDU and Bermuda each year on vacation, for business opportunities and to pursue an education at our colleges and universities," Michael Landguth, president and CEO of the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority, said. 'We expect that number to grown now that residents of both Triangle regions have a quick, convenient way to travel on BermudAir.
"North Carolina is the closest major land area to the territory and the flight from RDU to the airport outside Hamilton, Bermuda's capital, is only about two hours. BermudAir's service will operate on Mondays and Fridays on an Embraer E175 jet, which holds 70 passengers."We're thrilled to launch this direct connection between Bermuda and the Raleigh-Durham region, offering travelers a seamless, comfortable journey between our two dynamic destinations," said Adam Scott, the founder and CEO of BermudAir.
"This new route strengthens ties for leisure, business and education, and we look forward to welcoming more visitors to experience the beauty and warmth of Bermuda."With the new service, travelers can now reach 15 international destinations from RDU. More international routes to Canada and the Bahamas are set to launch this summer.
