The owner and operator of Cut Creators Barbershop, Mr. Victor Musa Ayuba, speaks to ODION JERRY on why he opted to going into the business. He discusses the challenges in the industry and how he overcomes them.

Excerpts: What made you want to go into the business? I am very good at arts, and so I felt like cutting hair is a way to express my artistry and to make people look good. How long have you been in the business. I have been in the business for five years now.



How have you fared in the business? It’s been great despite challenges; there have been improvements and advancement to give customers the best service every day. What challenges have you face d and how did you overcome them. One of the challenges I have faced in the business is lack of electricity and fuel.

I have to buy fuel for the generator because of the power issue in the country, and on the other side, getting fuel isn’t favourable because of the fuel hike,a liter of fuel right now is (N1000 per liter), but I overcome these challenges by using rechargeable appliances ; rechargeable bulbs, clippers, fans and power banks just to be able to power our gadgets, so that when there’s no light we can still operate. What skills does one need to thrive in the business? The act of creativity is essential. One needs to be creative to thrive in this business.

You have to be creative and professional. What is your assessment of the Nigerian business environment? It’s actually the survival of the fittest because the economy is really harsh and most businesses are even going down. It’s not for the weak, there have been ups and downs but we are still thriving to make sure we keep operating and active in the business.

What is your advice to young people who want to join the business? My advice to young people who want to join the business is that you should ensure that you have a solid capital, have money, save money, weather small or large scale and forget motivational speakers you actually need money for this business if you really want to go into it, in order to get equipment and some other things you need for the business..
