SAN RAFAEL Council fills seat on city planning board The City Council has appointed Danielle O’Leary, a former city official, to a vacant seat on the Planning Commission. O’Leary will take the place of Shingai Samudzi, who resigned. The term ends in October 2027.

Six residents applied for the seat. O’Leary is a community and government relations strategist at Prologis, a real estate investment trust, according to her application. She was San Rafael’s “director of economic development and innovation” from 2016 to 2022, and before that she held similar positions for Santa Rosa and Saratoga.



The council made the appointment at its meeting on Monday. MOUNT TAMALPAIS Fire crews to burn area of vegetation The Marin County Fire Department and other agencies are planning to burn vegetation in Mount Tamalpais State Park as soon as Wednesday, Oct. 23.

The controlled fires will burn near the Cushing Memorial Amphitheater and Ridgecrest Boulevard. Weather and air quality considerations might prompt organizers to delay the start of the project. The county said observers who see smoke on the mountain should not call 911.

The other agencies participating in the project are the state parks department and the Marin Municipal Water District. FAIRFAX Residential expansion gets panel’s approval The Planning Commission has approved a home expansion project at 58 Ridge Road. The plan involves adding about 118 square feet to the 1,391-square-foot, two-bedroom residence.

The commission held a hearing on the proposal at its meeting on Thursday.
