Kolkata: Rabindra Ghosh , the Bangladeshi advocate and human rights activist who came to Kolkata from Dhaka on Sunday for treatment, is keen to return by this month-end so that he can represent former Iskcon monk Chinmoy Krishna Das , who has been behind bars since his arrest on Nov 25. "In spite of repeated life threats from fundamentalists, I am firm on my intent to ensure justice for the arrested monk," Ghosh told TOI on Monday. While no lawyer represented Das at the hearing on Dec 3, Ghosh had attempted to move a bail application for Das at the Chittagong court on Dec 12 but could not do so following resistance by a group of lawyers.

With no lawyer representing Das during his court production, he had been sent to jail till the next hearing on Jan 2. "If the monk's bail is denied again on Jan 2, we will appeal at the high court so that the case can be transferred to any court in Dhaka," he said, adding that if the attacks on minorities in Bangladesh persist, he could even move the United Nations to highlight the human rights violations. During the visit to Kolkata, Ghosh is staying at his son's residence in Barrackpore.

Ghosh, who was threatened with dire consequences by fundamentalists in Chittagong for ‘daring' to stand for the monk, will appraise the Bangladesh deputy high commission of his presence in Kolkata. "On Tuesday, I will inform the Bangladesh deputy high commission of my arrival in India. Police in my country have helped me a lot by providing security and ensuring that I could emerge from the Chittagong court unscathed," said Ghosh.

Ghosh will visit AIIMS in Kalyani for his treatment and plans to return to Bangladesh three-four days before the case is next heard. "I wish I could be at the Maidan in Kolkata to experience the Vijay Diwas celebrations," said Ghosh, who was a muktijoddha himself. "If I was physically fit, I would definitely have gone there," reiterated Ghosh.
