Fans have expressed fear for the safety of a former WWE Champion after a terrifying series of social media posts. Multi-time world chap Asuka, one of the company’s top performers, left her supporters stunned this week with the string of comments over the conduct of some fans. The grappling sensation has been out of in-ring action for eight months with a serious knee injury.
Shortly after she and tag team partner Kairi Sane had lost their women’s tag championships, the decorated star revealed she’d be undergoing surgery to rectify the problem. That was in May of 2024 and, after a lengthy wait, it looks as though a comeback may be on the horizon ahead of Saturday’s major WWE event, Royal Rumble , in Indianapolis. Though not specifically linking her comeback to the Rumble, Fightful in the U.
S. noted that match ideas had been pitched involving the popular 43-year-old. The Rumble would make an ideal return scene for the Japanese icon, who memorably won the first ever women’s Royal Rumble match in 2018.
Talk of her comeback has unfortunately been overshadowed, though, after the Osaka-born star spoke out on social media, referencing what appear to have been unwanted ‘romantic or personal approaches’ towards her. The troubling comments began to surface on Wednesday, with Asuka hitting back at what she perceived as criticism of her career by saying: “..
.the desired directed at me are endless. Do this, do that, get this.
.. what the hell is this?” Later in the day, her concerns seemed to move towards her personal safety as she posted: “I absolutely reject any romantic or personal approaches toward me.
There is absolutely no possibility for others to interfere in my private life.” Minutes later, she added: “Please don't have romantic feelings for me. It's meaningless—100% pointless.
” While not noting specific incidents directly, the Damage CTRL member then went on to disclose that such contact had left her so fearful for her safety that she’d been in touch with police, noting the situation was so out of hand that it would likely impact her ability to engage in more genuine interactions with fans. Asuka explained: "I've been feeling in danger recently. I've already consulted the police.
At this rate, even if fans approach me at the airport or in the city, I will feel the possibility that something might happen, and it will scare me, making me unable to respond.” Fans immediately rushed to support the performer, one replying: “This is horrible I'm so sorry you have to deal with this kind of thing !! Stay Safe Asuka.” Another said: “Wow, that’s horrible.
I don’t care if you’re celebrity or not nobody should ever feel that unsafe.” Asuka herself did manage a moment of light relief in another social media exchange. WWE rival Nia Jax responded to her colleague’s post on romantic advances with the joke: “I thought we had something special.
” That was met with the quip: “I always tell you to keep our special relationship a secret from the public. Don’t expose it!” After a formative career in Japan and on the U.S.
independent scene, Asuka first signed for WWE via NXT in 2015, holding the brand’s women’s title for over 500 days before moving to the ‘main’ roster on Raw..
