Prayagraj: Acknowledging the spiritual significance and grandeur of Maha Kumbh, search engine Google has decided to integrate the temporary tent city into its navigation system for the first time. While Google typically provides navigation for established cities globally, this marks its first venture into creating navigation for a temporary city. An MoU was signed between Google officials and Maha Kumbh Mela Authority recently to facilitate this initiative.
"While devotees gather in large numbers worldwide, Google never previously allowed navigation for temporary events. This marks the first time the company revised its policy to include the Maha Kumbh Mela area in its navigation map, recognising the significance of the event and the vast crowds it attracts," ADM (Kumbh Mela) Vivek Chaturvedi said. He said the move is in line with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's vision of utilising technology to enhance the experience of devotees during this grand event.
Under this, Google will develop a specialised navigation system, enabling devotees to easily locate various sites, akharas and camps of prominent saints throughout the area. The feature is expected to be launched in late Nov or early Dec. This will benefit over 40 crore domestic and international devotees expected to attend the mega event in Prayagraj with ease.
Navigation refers to the detailed guidance provided for reaching a destination, which evolved from asking for directions or using paper maps to the modern convenience of Google navigation.
