NEW DELHI: In a significant victory for Indian law enforcement agencies, CBI has coordinated return of two fugitives to India from US and Thailand in separate extraditions, sources said, reports Rajshekhar Jha.The suspects, Virendrabhai Manibhai Patel and Janarthanan Sundaram , had red corner notices issued against them through Interpol and were wanted in case of financial fraud by police in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu respectively. In the first case, Patel, a fugitive wanted by Gujarat police for cheating, forgery, and criminal conspiracy, was extradited to India from the USA on Jan 29.
Patel, a former director of Charotar Nagrik Sahakari Bank, Anand, was accused of committing a massive fraud of Rs 77 crore. In the second case, Sundaram, extradited to India from Bangkok on Jan 29, had allegedly cheated depositors out of Rs 87.5 crore.
He was detained at Kolkata airport and handed over to Tamil Nadu police..
