Imran Khan said that he had known Lekha Washington from before, since they were part of the same circle of friends. However, it was during the Covid lockdown that they truly grew close. ‘Jaane Tu.
..Ya Jaane Na’ actor Imran Khan recently opened up about how his relationship with Lekha Washington began.
He said that he and Avantika Malik got divorced in 2019. It was after a year, during the early days of Covid lockdown, that he and Lekha began to grow close. Imran mentioned that he was living with his mother, and daughter Imara, struggling to manage daily life without any help during the lockdown.
This was also the time when he and Lekha had started chatting, and she offered to help him with grocery shopping and daily tasks. Imran said that she supported him and helped him get through the difficult time, and they grew close. He jokingly pointed out that it was technically illegal since during lockdown, people weren’t allowed to go out or visit someone else’s house.
While speaking with Filmfare, Imran Khan said, “We started to actually get close in the early days of COVID. So I had been separated for about a year. Early 2019 is when I split.
But that year was basically a write-off. I was not really a functioning human being in that year. Around that time (2020), we had gone into lockdown, and I was staying at home with my mom and my daughter Imara.
" He said that while he might sound entitled and privilege, he was struggling to do the daily house chores without any help, while also trying to fix himself post the divorce. He said that while no one was supposed to be leaving the house officially, he would head out wearing gloves, mask and buy eggs, tomatoes and groceries. “Around then is when Lekha and I started chatting.
We had known each other from before because we’re all within one group of friends. But we had not been romantically involved. She was also seeing someone else, but they had separated at that point," said Imran.
“We started chatting, and because she lived in Bandra near me, she said ‘Come, I will help you. We’ll go out and we will buy food for the house’. She was also alone at that point.
So the two of us were walking the streets of Bandra, buying food and vegetables. Then she would come home and help me out. And that is where we started to grow close.
Because I felt like this completely helpless, broken lost person who didn’t know how to manage any of this. And she was the person who supported me, helped me through this stuff. So it was technically illegal because you’re not supposed to go out or go to someone else’s house.
But that’s where I actually started to grow close and start to feel like someone here who is standing by and supporting me and helping me at a time when I’m really scared," shared Imran Khan. Imran Khan was previously married to Avantika Malik. They got married in 2011, and welcomed their daughter Imara in 2014.
They got divorced in 2019, ending their eight-year-long marriage..
