Immigration fraud cases rattle Ludh

Ludhiana: Out on bail, fraudulent travel agent and repeat offender Chirag Kapoor of C S Consultant, Civil Lines, has been booked again for duping a Gurdaspur resident of his money on the pretext of sending him abroad. The case comes in the wake of a series of FIRs lodged against siblings Amit and Veenu Malhotra of Globalway Immigration as well as their manager for cheating clients. In the latest instance, division number 8 police lodged an FIR against Chirag Kapoor of Gori Apartments, Chander Nagar, on the complaint of Jaswant Singh of Dulluana village in Gurdaspur district.

The FIR was lodged after an inquiry. Several complaints are still pending against the accused and most of his victims happen to be police personnel. The complainant said that he contacted the accused in 2023 as he wanted to go to Canada.



He paid Chirag Rs 3.18 lakh for a Canadian visa. However, after taking the money, Chirag kept delaying the process.

The complainant said that every time he went to Chirag’s office, he would ask him to come another day. When the visa could not be arranged for months, Jaswant demanded his money back. Chirag promised to return the money but he did not.

On June 22, 2023, he filed a police complaint against Chirag. ASI Satnam Singh, investigating officer from division number 8 police station said that after an inquiry, police found Chirag Kapoor guilty. A case was filed against him under sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) of the IPC and Immigration Act.

The ASI added that nine cases of immigration fraud had been filed against Chirag in 2023.
