A fan of Death in Paradise claimed the BBC programme isn't always accurate when it comes to one major part of the series.

One viewer of Death in Paradise has pointed out a huge issue with the BBC programme. Death in Paradise has been running since 2011 and follows a lead detective who attempts to solve crimes on the fictional Caribbean island of Saint Marie. There have been five lead detectives on the show, all of whom are British.

But as it is set in the Caribbean, many of the actors are forced to put on a different accent. A fan of the show, who hails from the Caribbean, admitted they often find this "distracting" and questioned why several characters sound Jamaican when Saint Marie has a French background. Taking to Reddit , the person wrote: "Being from the Caribbean, the exaggerated accents can be distracting.

Jamaicans have a distinct accent and other islands don’t sound like that at all. So it’s odd that Saint Marie having a French background has everyone sounding Jamaican. There was an episode where they claimed a guy was from Dominica yet he sounded Jamaican.

" They also pointed out other errors with Death in Paradise, from their portrayal of poor technology to the amount of white characters who appear on the show. The viewer continued: "The show can make it seem like some islands are backwards in technology and knowledge but the truth is forensics and other more advanced methods of solving crimes do actually exist in the Caribbean. A DI from abroad wouldn’t automatically be better or more knowledgeable.

" They added: "Also the Caribbean is quite diverse but there are far less white people than what the show portrays. Usually every episode has at least 1 white person in a position of power and there’s a bit of a white savior complex depending on the episode." The 14th series of Death in Paradise wrapped up last month as DI Mervin Wilson (played by Don Gilet) solved his final crime.

The EastEnders actor, 58, made his first appearance as Saint Marie's lead detective in the Christmas special, taking over from Ralf Little. While the BBC have not officially confirmed that a new season is in the works, the former soap star confirmed that the cast and crew would be heading back to Guadeloupe to film season 15 at the end of April. Given the show's scheduling history, it's likely that series 15 will air in January 2026, following a Christmas special.

However, that is yet to be confirmed by the BBC ..
